The Flavour of Hanami exhibition has just kickstarted at the Cube, 3rd floor of ISETAN KL, showcasing the beauty of Hanami and an exclusive dining experience with the chefs flown all the way from Japan.

So what exactly is the “Flavour of Hanami | Live Presentation and Tasting”?

It is an 1.5 hour journey of being transported to Japan as an impressive recreation of Hanami atmosphere fills the venue. Divided into 3 zones (Gallery, Theatre and Lounge), one can truly experience the culture of Hanami and tradition and craft of Japanese cuisine.

The "GALLERY" - Understanding the culture of Cherry Blossom Viewing

You know during blooming time, Japanese love going for cherry blossom viewing at the parks, bringing along bento boxes for their picnics there. Special Hanami bento boxes, whose replica is displayed on the exhibition, are definitely not easy to make but we get to learn some basic tips and tricks here.

Also at the GALLERY, we are treated with Mio Sparkling Sake (5% alcohol), and Hana Kizakura Sake (12% alcohol) which is made of flower yeast extracted from yellow cherry blossom. Aren't they the perfect drinks during Hanami season?

The "THEATRE" - Special 4k Movie "The Four Seasons in Kyoto" Screening

The beauty of shifting seasons forms part of background on how Kyoto cuisine is developed. Here we can view the breathtaking scenery of the 4 seasons in Kyoto, all thanks to the high definition technology.

The "LOUNGE" - Live Cooking Demo and Food Tasting

Moving to the last part of the activity, which is the main highlight, we get to meet the well-known Chef Shogo Sasaki, the heir of the current 7th generation owner of Restaurant IZUU, a Kyoto sushi restaurant established since 1781 (Over 220 years of history!), and indulge in his authentic Kyoto-style dishes. How lucky we are!

One enjoyable Hanami activity is to eat delicious Japanese cuisine while gazing at the cherry blossoms., so Chef Sasaki is here with us to prepare two of his signature dishes for our enjoyment-.

The making of Saba-sugatazushi - Whole Mackerel Lightly Matured Sushi

Chef Sasaki's No. 1 specialty is the Mackerel Sushi, in which he preserves the tradition of his forefathers and adds significant touches of Japanese flavours and culture into this dish. In Kyoto, only 2 restaurants are famous for the traditional mackerel sushi and IZUU is one of them.

The key of Saba-sugatazushi is the fish itself. The mackerel is marinated overnight with salt and vinegar, and then combined with vinegared sushi rice and wrapped kelp (konbu) to bring out the best flavour of mackerel.

The result? This Saba-sugatazushi tastes light and delicate when freshly made. But when it is left for several hours, the kelp helps mature the flavour, creating a stronger taste in the sushi. In case you are wondering, this sushi can be kept for 3 days.

And each roll of IZUU Mackerel Sushi is usually sold at 4,500JPY (RM180), a premium price in Kyoto (portion sufficient for two)!

The making of Chirashizushi - Scattered Topping Sushi

The next dish is the colorful dish, ideal for Hanami celebration. This Chirashizushi is very different from the usual Chirashi Don I have in KL. Here's the simple recipe I learn from Chef throughout the demo:

Step 1: Mix finely-chopped shiitake mushroom into the bowl of sushi rice to create an "earthy" flavoured base.
Step 2: Season the rice with seaweed flakes.
Step 3: Top the rice with shredded omelette (Kinshi egg).
Step 4: Add seafood topping - Prawn, squid and sea bream.
Step 5: Decorate the bowl to add colors.
Step 6: Voila! Now we are done with this beautiful dish served during festivals.

Taking a closer look at the Chirashizushi,I'm totally blown by this lovely combination. The taste is light but combines very well together. Love this simple bowl of comfort food!

Sakuramochi and Green Tea

What's better than having a Sakuramochi as dessert during Cherry Blossom festival? Wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf, this Japanese sweet pink-colored rice cake is generously filled with red bean paste in the center. So yummy and not too sweet for my liking!

Moving forward, in February and March 2017, the other 3 young owner chefs of famous Japanese restaurants from Kyoto will come to KL to showcase their own unique menu of Japanese traditional cuisine. Grab a ticket before you miss the chance!

Hey rock and roll fans! Are you ready to rock out at Journey’s concert?

In celebration of Journey Live in Malaysia concert this February 2017, I am glad to be invited to the pre-concert party where the local independent rock band, Soul Statue transports us back in time with Journey’s greatest hits as well as other rock favourites.

Well, if you are in your 30s to 40s, I am sure you have heard of Journey! Formed in San Francisco, Journey is one of the most popular American rock bands, creating some of the best-known songs in modern music. Since 1973, the band has earned 19 Top 40 Singles and 25 Gold and Platinum albums.

It is a great achievement for this pioneer of the arena of rock music to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017, one of the most prestigious accolades in the music industry.

The pre-concert party is a fun night of music, drinks and trivia where the band relives the great rock and roll era. Love the cool vibes and good food at Rock Bottom Kitchen + Bar Bangsar which ends my evening well!

The local band here is playing the songs like the 5 members of Journey -- Neal Schon (Lead guitar and backing vocals), Ross Valory (Base guitar and backing vocal), Jonathan Cain (Keyboard, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Steve Smith (Drums) and Arnel Pineda (Lead vocals).

I have always had this dream of visiting gigantic theme parks since young. In my wishlist, I have Everland in Korea, Hong Kong Disneyland, Universal Studios Japan, and Disney Sea in Japan.

Now, I guess I just started with a baby step by making my first visit to Universal Studios Singapore. Yes, it is my first time here although I have once made a wish to enter USS during my vacation in Resorts World Sentosa when I was 16.

For the past 5 years, I have been wanting to spend my Christmas in Singapore but I used to be tied up with final exams and assignments during university days for each year end. Last year, finally, I was in a company which granted all the employees a 10-day break from Christmas till New Year; hence I spent my entire holiday here in Singapore. And my 25 December 2016, the perfect Christmas Day at USS, the happiest place in Singapore!

On Christmas, USS operated from 10am till 10pm, but the queue at the entrance was already super long when I arrived at 9.30am. The ticket sold at the counter costs SGD 76, but I managed to buy it on Klook at only SGD 61. And skipped the queue at the ticketing counter too :D

This 50-acre park is considered super huge to me, please forgive me because I am a kid who first enter an international theme park! With 7 different movie-themed zones offering 24 rides and attractions -- Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, The Lost World, Far Far Away and Madagascar -- plus festive special attractions, I feel that spending 12 hours here is not enough!

Got a map once we entered this dreamland, and now.....let me tell you why

I'd prefer visiting here during Christmas than any other time around the year!

1. Festive Vibes

The decors were so beautiful during Christmas! I saw the latest decorations for Chinese New Year, where every nook and corner was adorned with red lanterns; but nothing was comparable to the Christmas vibes. So lively, energetic and perfectly fitted into the holiday mood!

2. Universal Journey

Specially for this holiday season, USS introduced Universal Journey, a walkthrough attraction where I was truly amazed by the stunning galaxy of 824,961 lights here. This world's largest indoor light bulb display has made USS the proud holder of Guinness World Records.

And you can now visit it until 12 February 2017 (Extended time!) if you have not. Perhaps an early Valentine's celebration here would make the lovebirds' special day more memorable?

3. Christmas Candy House

Last year's limited-time attraction was a candy house where the cute pixies were there to pose with you and Santa Claus would greet you at certain hours. It was something additional to what you could normally experience in USS, which I personally enjoyed as it made my Christmas an unforgettable one.

Hopefully there are more special attractions for Christmas this year!

I was not sure if USS had this stage performance during usual days, but certainly the Christmas stage show was more entertaining as it incorporated several characters whom we were all very familiar with. So happy to see cute Minions in Christmas hat, Sesame Street stars, gingerbread man and few more on stage!

.....and more performances at selected hours during Christmas period.

The map guide had included every detail in it, so don't worry that you would miss it!

5. Lake Hollywood Spectacular Fireworks

The usual firework shows usually fall only on Saturdays, but they increase the frequency during last year end. Doesn't this perfect your Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year Eve?

The rest of USS is worth exploring any day you wish, especially the New York, Hollywood, Madagascar, Sci-Fi and Far Far Away zones. As interesting rides come one after another, I wish the queue is shorter and I can have longer time spent here!

P/S: If you are a fan of Sesame Street like me, don't forget to catch their Street Show at New York zone ya!

Also in New York zone, don't miss the ever popular Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase ride!

If I recall correctly, the "Lights, Camera, Action!™ Hosted by Steven Spielberg" attraction is a must-visit too!! Be blown away as an empty sound stage becomes the setting for a major hurricane about to hit New York City - right before your very eyes.

Hollywood Zone where you can meet the Minions...

Dining establishments are aplenty, but the food is served at premium prices and you probably just can't avoid the queue because almost every restaurant was packed, and it became worse when it rained heavily on the day I visited.

Mel's Drive-In has luxurious vintage car displayed outside the outlet.

So we had our lunch at Mel's Drive-In®, a classic 1950’s drive-in diner serving all-American favourites like our famous rocket sauce burgers, with a side of fries and soft drinks, as well as thick milkshakes.

Unfortunately, our chicken burger, sloppy meat sausage and onion rings were below expectation.

The taste was quite horrible I'd say, and I just didn't want to finish this...

So Santa treated me Starbucks instead. I didn't know that Starbucks Singapore serves Hojicha Frappe

on its menu, and it certainly tasted awesome for a die-hard fan of Hojicha like me.

After lunch, we went to Madagascar, where the safari adventure began.

Luckily we made it for the last session of Madagascar Boogie street entertainment show of the day, where Alex, Marty, Gloria, King Julien were dancing in style in front of us, led by King Julien.

I like to move it move it, we like to move it move it~~

After the dance, we quickly queued for photography session with the characters. I was a happy kid when I managed to take a picture with my favourite Alex!! Sorry Gloria, perhaps next time another photo with you, kay?

And I wouldn't miss a chance to ride on King Julien's Beach Party-Go-Round carousel especially on Alex's back!

Madagascar: A Crate Adventure river boat ride was also recommended for true Madagascar fans! :D

My heart melted at the merchandise store!! I regretted for not bringing Alex and Snowball home :(

Sci-fi City, every guy's favourite once they see Transformers and the futuristic world!

I wanted to try the Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON™ super thrilling roller coaster,

but the heavy rain didn't permit me to. Be warned, it's not for the faint hearted.

Another recommended ride was TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle,

one of the most thrilling hyper-realistic 3D ride, right in the middle of all the action battles.

At Ancient Egypt, there was nothing much except for the Revenge of the Mummy™ indoor roller coaster under total darkness. Well, we could skip this zone if we were running out of time to try other rides.

Far Far Away - It's every girl's dream to be here!

Last but not least, before USS closed, we had one quick hour visiting the Far Far Away zone, enjoying the kid-friendly attractions such as Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey roller coaster, Shrek 4D Adventure, Donkey Live Show, Magic Potion Spin ferris wheel and Enchanted Airways junior roller coaster.

Be it day or night, the beautiful castle was just as mesmerizing!

Donkey Live Show was really entertaining because it was my first time seeing a talking donkey :P

The only downside to visit USS during festive seasons was probably the crowd.

Despite of the huge crowd in USS, overall it was an unforgettable Christmas experience that fulfilled part of my dream. Throughout my week in Singapore, USS was where I had my best memories. It felt really great to be a kid, putting away all the unhappiness and just enjoying myself at this happy land!

My next Christmas plan? Probably not coming back to USS so soon but I am glad to be

one of the 25 million visitors of USS to date. Can't wait to plan for the next trip!

Hi babes! Sorry for the long absence on the update of my CoolSculpting journey with ME Clinic. Many of you have dropped my Facebook / Instagram messages to ask how many times of treatment did I go for etc etc.

Now, here goes a proper update on my fat freezing journey with CoolSculpting.

From the first time I heard of CoolSculpting in ME Clinic, Berjaya Times Square to my first CoolSculpting treatment experience, followed by a post-treatment consultation with Dr. David, it has been a fulfilling 4-month journey with ME Clinic. So yeah, let me share with you the result of the treatment!

The follow-up consultation was supposed to be done after 2 months of the treatment, but my schedule was so tied up that I had no choice but to delay it. Sorry to the nurses in ME Clinic! ❤ Thanks for accommodating to my schedule and willing to get me a nice time slot although I know the doctor is super busy.

During the consultation…

The nurses help to take pictures of the post-treatment area, which is, in my case, the thigh area. Then the brief consultation with the doctor is helpful to follow up on the overall experience and ensure everything is fine.

Overall, it takes less than an hour. I love how ME Clinic organizes such short and sweet follow-up sessions that can easily fit into the hectic schedule of the customers. I know lots of people have posed questions on my CoolSculpting experience.

Q&A

Here are some of the Q&As, just to answer some of the common questions from you guys:

Q: How many times of CoolSculpting did I go?

A:One time. Only on the upper thigh area. (You can go for several times, for different areas, but the treatment price is counted per session).

Q: How long is each session?

A: As explained in my previous post, each area takes 75 minutes. As for mine, left thigh treatment is 75 minutes, followed by right thigh, meaning 2.5 hours in total including preparation time etc.

Q: How effective is the one-time treatment?

A:VERY effective. After 2-3 months, you can see visible result on the targeted area, within a reduction of 20 to 30% of fat cells in the area. (It may take long for optimal result)

Q: Is the treatment painful?

A: Generally no. Personally, I experience numbness and itchiness within the first month of treatment, and some sharp pains at night (during sleep). But after that period, everything is back to normal.

The Overall Process…

During-treatment process:

Quick, easy to follow and feel at ease. The only discomfort is the numbness for staying in the same position for 75 minutes.

After-treatment process:

Everything is normal, until 2-3 weeks after the treatment, I experience sharp pain at night during sleep for a few days. But then everything returns to normal after that.

Result: Visibly firmer on the sides of the upper thigh. And the hip area appears less ‘bumpy’.

The Result… Before VS After

As promised, CoolSculpting safely andeffectively removes 20 to 30% of fat cells in the area treated, but the effect is NOT immediate. It may take 1-2 months, but for my case, perhaps because the fats around my thigh area are more severe, so it takes around 2-3 months for the result to be seen. Plus,the fat elimination through natural body process requires time.

As mine focuses on the hips area, it can be visibly seen that the sides are not "bumpy" and "loose" as before.

Although the process is slower than usual, I am happy with the result. For those who have not tried CoolSculpting, you should! I’d recommend this fat freezing method to treat the fat areas because:

1. Non-surgical, safe and effective way to remove fats.

2. Extra useful on those areas which are resistant to diet and exercise such as arms, tummy, thigh, chin, etc.

3. No bounceback. Since CoolSculpting helps to freeze fats (so that they become dead cells) and the body eliminates the fats naturally, the fat will be permanently removed.

Step 4. Rinse off thoroughly.

Step 5. Store the remaining content of face mask into the fridge for the following use.
(Best to use it on the very next day to ensure its freshness)

After a quick 15-minutes mask pampering, the skin feels softer, less tired and more nourished. ❤

To me, it feels like a jar of beauty mask being packaged into smaller packs for ease and convenience on-the-go. Now I can just bring the mini capsules for travelling, instead of a bulky jar, and yet able to replenish dry and rough skin with plenty of moisture.

After the first use...

I am surprised that there is a lot more content in the Honey Capsule Mask. Really, don't belittle this small capsule.

Remember to seal it tightly, store in the fridge and use it as soon as possible.

Aloe Capsule Mask: Transparent gel glides smoothly and reduces redness of the skin. Great for sensitive skin!

Similarly, the Aloe, Pomegranate and Rice Capsule Mask have equally generous amount of content in the capsule, sufficient for 2 ideal uses. Each has different texture and feels differently on the skin. Overall, it works great as a replacement to mask jar.

Pomegranate Capsule Mask: Thick cream adheres well onto the skin and easy to wash off too.

Rice Capsule Mask: Smooth gel spreads evenly on the skin despite of the added texture of tiny rice dots.

So...which is my favourite?

Overall, these capsules are very lovely. They look so cute (Like edible jams!) and wonderfully filled with beauty goodness. My personal favourite goes to the Honey as it moisturizes my dry skin pretty well, leaving it hydrated and plump. Plus, the light touches of sweetness add pleasure in using this mask.

Rice Capsule Mask is my No.2 favourite, as I find it very unique with rice bits texture
and the thick gel feels extra comfortable on the skin. Love it! ❤

VERDICT:

1. Overall, I prefer this type of capsule mask to the conventional mask sheet or jar because of its texture on skin and convenience.
2. I appreciate the variety in this deluxe set that targets on various skin needs, but it'd be great if it introduces capsule mask in individual package so that I can get more of my favourite type.

It is always a pleasant surprise to be invited to experience a relaxing weekend at one of the grandest, luxurious hotels in town. My recent stay at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur was a great escapade from my 24/7 hectic life.

Honestly, you don't have to travel far in order to enjoy a great holiday. Just book a nice room in one of the most prestigious hotels in town, spend your weekend there doing things that you really love -- be it reading books, swimming or pampering at the spa.

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is conveniently located in the heart of Golden Triangle, where KLCC, Pavilion KL and Bukit Bintang are all within walking distance. There are just plenty of activities for city explorers around this area. And you can always travel further to visit the historical sites and discover local cultures in KL. Well, being a city girl myself, I have not really explored the entire KL, but am pretty sure there are tonnes of amazing stuff awaiting you out there.

Over the weekend in Grand Hyatt KL, all I did was spending most of my time inside the hotel, truly putting my mind at rest and doing "nothing" for the whole day. From the moment I step into the hotel, I realise there is complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi in all guestrooms, social and events space, so don't worry about getting disconnected here.

Conference rooms, ballroom and lounge are located on the ground level, and interestingly we had to head up to the Sky Lobby at Level 38 to check-in. With KLCC at the backdrop of the hotel sky lobby, a sense of modernity and grandeur fill the space immediately.

I stayed in the Standard Room (lowest rate room among all the guestrooms and suites) but the overall experience is beyond "standard". I have not expected the room to be so huge!

The door opens to a spacious walkway leading into the main bedroom area, fully equipped with large LCD screen TV, glass workstation, sofa, and twin beds surrounded by the floor-to-ceiling window for us to enjoy the panoramic city view and maximized natural daylight.

The remaining of this spacious, 47 square meters of space is also contemporarily designed and very well-organized. It is sub-divided into several sections-- changing room / walk-in wardrobe, washroom, bathroom with shower and bathtub, mini bar with coffee-making facilities, and even a corner with makeup table and LED mirror.

I am totally in love with the bright LED magnifying mirror and wall mirror,

now my makeup is so on point!

Another exciting part is that the luxurious bathroom is LCG enclosed cube fitted with rain shower and marble bathtub. LCG (liquid crystal glass) technology simply means that you can turn the glass opaque (for greater privacy) in just a touch on the button.

The mini bar counter is also well-equipped with coffee-making facilities, mini fridge and a wide variety of beverages and snacks. The variety here is pretty good, and I can enjoy my afternoon tea break right in the room!

Plus, in-room dining is just a phone call away. I had a great time savouring the heavenly good cheesecake and refreshing berries from Thirty8 restaurant....on the bed! I mean, who doesn't love this perfectly comfortable moment when you get to have the entire room to yourself!

I forgot to take any picture at the pool, but it was an amazing free-form swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery, overlooking the skyscrapers in town. Whether you prefer dipping yourself in the cool water or lying on the lounge while enjoying some cocktails, I am sure it is a pretty good way to relax the mind and soul.

Approaching evening, the sky lobby is probably the best place to chill here. Looking through the clear glass walls, it feels as if the appreciate the spectacular sight where the iconic skyscrapers light up the city.

Despite of getting used to sleep deprivation since entering the corporate world, I start to cherish every moment I get to rest and wake up to a splendid breakfast buffet spread at Thirty8. Yes, because having breakfast on the 38th floor is not something I do everyday :P

Honestly, the buffet spread totally blows my mind! Almost every corner is a live cooking station where the chef serves your food ala minute. And you can even place order using the card on your table, and have it delivered to your table in awhile (You don't need to queue in front of the counter!).

Western, Chinese, Arabian, Japanese varieties are aplenty here. On top of that, I am glad that they have gluten-free fresh bakes and a wholesome spread of fruits for the health conscious. It is really a filling breakfast and if you feel guilty, the fitness centre is open 24/7 for you!

I have tried many types of electronic toothbrushes, but none of them is similar to my latest Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite+ 5 Series Sonic Toothbrush. Philips Sonicare is not the ordinary toothbrush that merely vibrates when you press the “On” button. The brush head is rather small for some people, but I find that this size is just nice to reach the stubborn corners and inner surfaces. Plus, I don't need to brush it hard. Gentle pressure is the best to maximise its effectiveness and I just let the toothbrush do the brushing for me. So comfortable and no more bleeding gums!

So....what's so special about Philips Sonicare?

The brush head is detachable from the toothbrush, and ideally be replaced every 3 months for optimal result.

The immediate result?

The teeth feel smooth and plaque-free, with no residue of food stuck within the gaps between the teeth.

A good 3-5 years, depending on how well you maintain the toothbrush.

What are Smart Timer and Quadpacer?

And I can take my own sweet time to brush the head, as it will stop automatically after 2 minutes, thanks to the Smart Timer. It also has a special interval timer -- 30-second Quadpacer -- to remind you to brush the 4 areas of your mouth evenly and thoroughly for 30 seconds each, as recommended by the dentists.

It has indicator lights for intensity levels (to control how strong the vibration of the toothbrush is) and a useful battery indicator light so it wouldn't run out of charge, and it does up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute.

To sum up my experience, here are some of the features I like and don't like:

Overall Verdict:

Philips Sonicare may seem a tad expensive for some, but I feel that it is definitely worth the investment for long term. If we don't start taking good care of our tooth from now on, 10 years down to road we'll probably regret.

I always remind myself to take good care of the eyes; don't wait till the fine lines and wrinkles appear. It smooths out around the eye when I massage the cream in circular motion around the eyes. As it feels a tad thick, so a little amount is sufficient to go a long way.

As I only use it for my night skincare regime after a long day out, the cream can last really long too.

A tea lounge has always attracted me with its posh, elegant setting but the ridiculously high price often lets it down. Until recently I bump into Tea Verandah, I couldn't be more excited than enjoying my afternoon tea without burning a hole in the pocket!

TEA Verandah serves a wide variety of tea beverages, contemporary fusion snacks and desserts under a cozy, open-concept lounge setting. And most importantly, it emphasizes on the value for money, hence the menu pricing is from RM9.90 to RM40.60, which is just a fraction of the price tags in many hotel lounges or tea houses.

I am not kidding when speaking of the wide varieties of tea. Upon arrival, the waiter presents me with a tray of more than 24 types of tea ranging from the classic black tea, Rooibos tea to healthy, organic herbs tea and Europe fruits tea. Just get a good whiff of each flavour, and decide which to go for.

Named after the shop itself, TEA Verandah is a must-order signature tea, especially for first timers. It is my personal favourite among the Europe Fruit tea selection, because of its complex combination of dried fruits and flowers. Just brew it for 8 to 10 minutes, and let the excellent floral-fruity aroma fill the space. It tastes lightly sweet and tangy on the palate, which I think is a great choice for ladies.

Yogurt Tea - Pinky Panther @ RM16.80 per pot / RM35.50 including tea set

(Strawberry bits, apple bits, hibiscus blossoms, raisins,
carrot bits, yogurt bits, beetroot bits, Rhubarb bits)

For something unconventional, I'd recommended this icy concoction of Yogurt Tea! It is interesting to find that the hot fruity tea, when combined with yogurt and crushed ice, tastes extra smooth and more refreshing. The consistency is just perfect--- Slightly thick but not creamy and heavy at all.

Regardless of which tea you pick, you can opt for: Either the serving of tea only, or complement it with a high tea set. The two-tier set comes with 3 pieces of savoury pastries on top and 4-5 pieces of sweet treats at the lower tier.

Savouries: Tuna Filo Puff, Crabmeat Filo Puff, Sambal Hotdog Puff

If you are a huge fan of pastry like myself, you can easily lap up the huge crispy puffs on your own. I personally enjoy the huge filo pastry more as the crispy skin is generously filled with yummy chunky seafood.

Sweets: Mini Chocolate and Strawberry Tarts, Orange Poppy Seed Muffin, Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart, Scone

Among the dainty desserts, I couldn't decide which is my favourite because they are all so tasty and baked to perfection. However, unique ones such as the thick chocolate peanut butter tart is worth a special mention, because of its electrifying marriage of creamy sweet chocolate and crunchy, savoury peanut butter layers. Sinful yet satisfying!

Luck is on my side during my visit, as I get to try the homemade fruity scone which is only available on a rotational basis. The warm scone is loaded with chunks of dried orange and berries that add a nice biting pleasure to the melt-in-the-mouth scone.

How I'd wish to have more of these!

Fruit Tart @ RM13.80

The desserts are seriously too good that I can't help but to order another piece--- the popular Fruit Tart with a crumbly base, thick cheese filling, and fresh cream topping. I personally love this type of crust that exudes rich flavour, similar to those butter cookies.

Best served cold, the tart tastes fresh and chilly without feeling too sweet on the mouth.

Ocean Oglio Aglio @ RM25.90

Apart from light bites, Tea Verandah actually serves simple breakfast menu such as banana pancakes, poached eggs, and assorted pastries (which comes with a cup of Americano), as well as main courses such as rosemary chicken, mussels pot and pasta. If you love strong garlicky flavours, the seafood spaghetti topped with tiger prawns and mussels is a great option for its aroma and mild spiciness.

Grilled Salmon Steak @ RM25.90

Again, the thick slab of salmon steak is generously portioned and beautifully presented on a bed of mashed potato, garlic butter spinach and asparagus. Love its well-flavoured flesh with just the right amount of charness!

Verdict:

1. Ambiance wise, I totally have no complaints at all. Posh, trendy and elegant; Perfect venue to chill!

2. Thumbs up for the wide assortment of tea that wows me with unique and distinctive flavours. I think I'd consider reducing coffee and go for the healthy tea instead.

4. Pulai Waterfall: Looking for a quick day trip to refresh and your senses? Head over to Pulai Waterfall to enjoy its breathtaking view and even go on hiking in the surrounding areas. The hiking route will take you approximately 3 to 3.5 hours to complete, and in the meantime, you can enjoy the local scenery or have a picnic with your companions.

5. Chinese Heritage Museum: This little three-storey museum welcomes you to learn about the ancient cultures and customs of the Chinese immigrants in Malaysia. This beautiful location will also teach you a lot of things about Johor Bahru’s history and various events that shaped the city to be what it is today. This beautiful museum is worth a visit.

Make the most of your time!

Of course the list can go on and on and most probably you will not get tired of visiting Johor Bahru. While Johor Bahru is certainly not a “touristy” destination in any sense of the word, you can make the most out of your time here on or from your way to Singapore. The city will give you a glimpse into a rather chaotic lifestyle, which is rather in stark contrast to the organized lifestyle of Singaporeans.
