香港仔車仔面 HK Boy Cart Noodle @ Bandar Mahkota Cheras

Whenever I miss the Hong Kong street food, surely I’d visit this HK Boy Cart Noodle (香港仔車仔面) restaurant at Bandar Mahkota Cheras to satisfy my long list of cravings. This place is truly a heaven for Hong Kong street food such as Curry Fish Balls (咖喱鱼蛋), Eggette Waffle (鸡蛋仔), and of course the signature Cart Noodles (車仔面).

The ambiance of the restaurant is certainly different from those street stalls along the narrow alleys in Hong Kong, but it exudes nice rustic vibes amidst the old-school setting as you can see from the old wall posters and traditional cutlery.

Look at those hand-written advertisement sheets on the wall, do they remind you of the old Hong Kong?

Great emphasis is also placed on the table decors to keep the ambiance as rustic as possible.

Menu / Order Chit

Like many old-style Hong Kong Char Chan Teng, the waiter would come to your table and circle the items you order on the chit. The style is very much like those we normally watch in TVB drama, except for the fact that the waitstaff does not have Hongkie Cantonese slang :P

Iced Milk Tea (冰鎮奶茶) @ RM5.90

Food here is all served in very traditional Hong Kong style, for instance the famous HK milk tea served in ice bowl (冰鎮奶茶) to keep the temperature low throughout the meal—so it remains cooling and refreshing in the throat.

Signature Cart Noodles (車仔面)

Step 1: Choose the Type of Noodles: Yellow noodles, meehoon, hor fun, etc
Step 2: Choose the Soup Base: Curry, beef soup, spicy soup, tomato base, etc
Step 3: Choose Condiments: Fish balls, sausages, vegetables, pig's skin, red meat, etc

I pick the highly recommended tomato based soup, but perhaps because I am not a fan of sweet soup, we don't really like this. If I were to revisit, I'd probably go for the curry soup base instead. If you add lots of premium toppings (RM2.90, RM3.90 and RM8.90 per type), the bowl of noodles can cost a bomb!

Hong Kong Curry Fish Balls (咖喱鱼蛋) @ RM5

The Curry Fish Balls, on the other hand, are slightly disappointing due to the small-sized balls used and lack of curry richness in it. Great for snacking, but I wouldn’t come back for this.

Hong Kong Eggette Waffle (鸡蛋仔) @ RM5
Whereas the eggette is pretty standard. I'm sure it would have tasted better if served piping hot.

Chee Cheong Fun in Special Sauce (混酱肠粉) @ RM6

Nevertheless, my favourite here is the Chee Cheong Fun! I am totally in love with this special sauce, mainly comprising of Peanut Gravy, Sweet Sauce and Chilli Sauce, with generous drizzles of roasted sesame! The combination is sweet and just so good that I can wipe out the whole plate on my own.

Verdict:
1. The taste, ambiance and service here are reminiscent of the old-school Hong Kong coffee shops. So mostalgic and if you have been to Hong Kong, this is the place to relive your good memories there!
2. Taste wise, it is acceptable for both young and old. Not bad!
3. To be honest, the dishes come in really petite sizes— big eaters would probably need a few portions to fill the stomach. But looking at the price range, I have no complaints at all.

New Year Wishlist: 10 Favourite Products From ezbuy!

Hello 2017! Not yet...but we are almost there. ❤ It feels like yesterday we just began our journey in 2016. Moving on to a brand new year, I have a couple of favourite items that I am eyeing on ezbuy online shopping portal.

Basically, ezbuy is like an English version of Taobao, the world's famous Chinese shopping site which is a life saver for me as I can't read complicated Chinese. The prices are tagged in Ringgit Malaysia, so no currency conversion is required.

Now let's see what I want for this new year!

1. Floral Printed Cheongsam Dress (Direct link: HERE)

I guess the picture above has said it all :P New year always mean new wardrobe to me, but Chinese New Year means it's time for a new piece of elegant cheongsam for the annual family gathering. In fact, there are hundreds of designs to choose from on ezbuy and they are super affordable!

2. Korean Lace Summer Dress (Direct link: HERE)

Like I said, new year is meant for replenishing the wardrobe with new styles and trendy items. I am totally in love with this Korean lace dress because of its intricate girly design. If you wanna shop for the hottest, trendiest fashion, I think ezbuy has everything you need.

3. European Sequin Pointy Heels (Direct link: HERE)

And being a fashionista myself, I just can't get my eyes off the elegant sequin heels in dazzling silver color. It is simply perfect for any party or special occasion, how I'd wish to have such a lovely pair of heels!
4. Korean Saddle Bag (Direct link: HERE)

My new outfit wouldn't be complete without a chic, cute bag. I love how the fashion in China is always ahead of us, and I found a lot of fashion pieces on ezbuy which make me so tempted to buy because I have not seen them anywhere in Malaysia before. Worth adding this one into my collection!

5. Electronic Smart Fitness Watch (Direct link: HERE)

Fashion aside, health is still more important. I have always wanted to get a smart watch to monitor my daily activities, sleeping rate, heart rate, etc. Those I often see in stores can cost up to thousands of Ringgit, but the one I see on ezbuy is less than a hundred Ringgit which I feel it's a pretty good deal to remind myself about being healthy.

6. Instagram-famous Cloudy Bedsheets (Direct link: HERE)

Since it is going to be a new year, home should be the place where change should begin. I want to give my bedroom a new facelift, and the easiest way to do it is by changing a new bedsheet in designs that I have not tried before. This cloud-printed bedsheet with pink geometrical touches look so soft and sweet. It has the exact pastel hues which I love!

7. Minimalist Blue Geometric Sofa Cushion (Direct link: HERE)

....then followed by the living room! I just can't say No to pastel shades because it is so eye-pleasing and exudes a sense of comfort to the living hall. Totally love this set of cushions, which I'd wish I can bring them home now.

8. Multifunctional Electric Mini Nonstick Pot (Direct link: HERE)

This upcoming year I aim to eat healthily and shed away those fats. One of the best ways is to cook from home, but I must admit that I am a poor cook, so this cute machine is ideal to prep all my meals everyday. The multifunctional feature of being able to cook almost anything you want is impressive, as it makes cooking much more convenient now.

9. Selfie Stick (Direct link: HERE)

Then it comes to gadgets and tools.... If you are expecting more vacations this year, then a good quality selfie stick may come in handy. This one is not only equipped with Bluetooth feature, but also with a front-facing mirror and LED light to further enhance your picture. How cool is that!

10. 2017 Creative Diary Book (Direct link: HERE)

Last but not least, I think everyone should at least own a diary planner to jot down the day-to-day important notes and always plan ahead. The stationery's section on ezbuy is equally extensive and spoils us with choices.

Prime
With millions of products on Ezbuy, I can definitely shop crazily there but one of my biggest concerns is the shipping rates. The normal shipping fee is about RM10 per 500g, and if I buy as many items as I want, the shipping alone can cost a bomb.

Thank God, now things have changed with the introduction of Prime.
You can ship millions of items at only RM8.80 nett flat rate per checkout, regardless of parcel size, weight and quantity.

No worries about buying bulky things anymore. Just go Prime and start saving on shipping fees now!

Only items with the Prime Label are eligible for RM8.80 flat shipping rate. Prime eligible items are clearly marked on both web browser and mobile app, just look out for the icon or, to make things easier, use Prime filter. Don't forget to find out more deals on women's dresses and women's bags!

HELLO 2017!  Seriously, how can one year pass so quickly? One thing I really love about having a blog over all these years is that I can always do a flashback on what has happened all these while. And when I look back at my 2016 online diary, it feels like things have changed so much this year.

I have done the review of the year for the past two years. And I guess it has become a habit for me to summarize the year in one blog post.

Now...let's begin with my summarized journey in 2016!

January: The first month of the year always begins with lots of Yee Sang (Prosperity Toss)
and Poon Choi (Treasure Pot) to usher in the year of Monkey! (Blogged: HERE)

February: It's Chinese New Year! This year is extra memorable because it's my year....and....
we had our annual family trip to Jenjarom for the light carnival there. (Blogged: HERE

March: This month marks the new beginning of my career life. It has been a roller coaster journey before I settle down at the current company now. Am unsure if this is really something for me, but one thing for sure is, I met lots of amazing people at work whom I adore very much.

April: First company trip to Malacca! Some of the nicest people I met there have left the company :(
and I hope we cross our path again.

May: Had my first Langkawi trip with AirAsia for Langkawi International Laksa Carnival
and we had so much fun playing water sports there too! (Blogged: HERE)

June: First night run with SHELL. (Blogged: HERE)

I realise I start falling in love with running after a couple of fun runs. Thank God for the strength,
I have completed 6 runs in total throughout the year. Hopefully there will be more in 2017!

July: First time watching Jolin Tsai's concert as a media guest. (Blogged: HERE)
我呸我PLAY! 蔡依林PLAY世界巡回演唱会-马来西亚站 很棒 很难忘哦!

August: Travelled to Penang for Fish Leong 梁静茹 Tu T’appelles L’amour 2016 World Tour -
Malaysia "你的名字是爱情"世界巡回演唱会 - 马来西亚站 (Blogged: HERE)

Thank you PR and IMC Live Group for the awesome hospitality throughout the stay!

September: First time visiting Danang, Vietnam with AirAsia and Danang Tourism Board. My favourite is Bana Hills French Village, thanks for literally transporting me to France! (Blogged: HERE)

October: Sponsored trip to Desaru, Johor with Johor Tourism Board. (Blogged: HERE)

Also, in the same month, I went to Pulau Perhentian for a snorkelling trip with few close blogger friends, courtesy to BuBu Resort for the generous sponsorship. (Blogged: HERE)

November: My birthday month!! Truly blessed to have all of you with me. (Blogged: HERE)

December: Happiest month of the year. Managed to spend my Christmas week in Singapore and visited so many places there-- Universal Studios Singapore, Gardens by the Bay, Art Science Museum, Bugis, Little India, Serangoon, MacRitchie Reservoir, and more.

This 10-day break from work was fulfilling. Thanks for the memories, I had my best Christmas ever

2016 has been a turning point of my life, from being a student cum blogger to a professional-to-be cum blogger. There were a lot of "first time"s for me this year and hopefully more to come next year.

Am not going to write my 2017 resolutions, because what is meant to be will be. All I want for 2017 is good health, smooth career journey, long-lasting relationship and more opportunities to travel and see the outside world.

Anyway, wishing you Happy 2017 and thank you for your
support to www.ohfishiee.com throughout the years!!

Taiwanese Chun Ciou Hot Pot Buffet 台湾自助式火锅 春秋战锅 @ Old Klang Road, KL

Welcome to the largest premium Taiwanese hot pot restaurant in Malaysia!

If you have been to Taiwan, do you remember those popular steamboat shops that you see along almost every street? For a taste of Taiwanese steamboat, you don't have to travel all the way there anymore because the first authentic Taiwanese imperial "served-to-table" hotpot buffet is now in KL!

Originated from Taiwan, Chun Ciou Hot Pot (春秋战锅) brings us the best ingredients and recipes exactly like those in Taiwan. Tucked along the busy street of Old Klang Road (same side as Scott Garden, very near to Mid Valley), Chun Ciou is a stand-alone double-storey outlet in black with a huge signage on top which you can't miss upon passing by.

Chun Ciou boasts an elegant and heroic dining atmosphere with abundant Chinese historic elements.
The entrance opens to several dramatic craved Chinese statues standing boldly at the reception counter.

Even the waiting area is tastefully adorned with high red chairs that make this space very Instagram-worthy.

The vast caverns lead to a brick-walled restaurant with spacious seating on both levels, creating a lively but intimate dining experience. The traditional Chinese lanterns light up the room, around which comfortable spaced tables are adorned with classy tableware.

The interior exudes a contemporary feel to match the blend of modernity and classical Taiwanese hot pot food served. Most importantly, it is fully air-conditioned and the space, despite full-house, is not stuffy at all!

The ambiance is made so comfortable for both lunch and dinner, especially when it is becoming a trend to have steamboat gatherings during lunch time now.

The main highlights of the menu are all printed above. From the soup base and meats to the myriad choices of sides and desserts, they are all the "basics" in this Taiwanese hot pot place.

Let's begin with choosing the two types of perfect broth in one pot to satisfy the palate:

精选汤底 Featured Soup Base
壽喜湯底Sukiyaki Soup
湖盐汤底Lakesalt Soup
高级豚骨汤底 Tonkatsu Soup
蒙古麻辣汤底 Spicy Soup
台湾药膳汤底 Herbal Soup
东炎汤底 Tomyam Soup

For the first time, I try the Lake Salt Soup Base (湖盐汤底) which is similar to our local Superior Soup (清汤) but slightly more savoury. My next favourite is the Sukiyaki Soup Base (壽喜湯底) which is very strong in flavours, suitable for dipping the meats.

While waiting for the broth to boil, we have some palate openers to whet the appetite--
Pickled Cherry Tomatoes (梅漬蕃茄), Golden Kimchi (黄金泡菜) and Pickled Lotus Root (芒香藕片).

Taiwanese Braised pork rice (卤肉饭)

As well as the famous Taiwanese Lu Rou Fan!! Love this bowl of melt-in-the-mouth pork with
gorgeous thick sweet and savoury gravy. This comfort food is so addictive that we can't stop eating.

Here we are spoilt with myriad choices of premium grade meats. And the best part is, you can order as many as you want, and the food will be delivered to your table by the attentive staff. Soups are constantly refilled and empty plates are never left to linger long on the table.

特选肉品 Specially Selected Meats
将军霜降牛 Australian Striploin
霜王雪花牛 Australian Ribeyes
诸葛嫩肩里肌羊 Lamb Shoulder Roll
干将梅花猪 Pork Belly
莫邪烟熏猪前腿 Pork Shoulder
春秋鸡柳条 Chicken Fillet
金陵樱桃鸭 Duck Roll

*以上食材无限供应 Unlimited orders are available.

The thinly sliced pork comes in a good balance of  lean and fatty layers. Yummy!

[Highly Recommended!] 霜王雪花牛 Australian Ribeyes

How to best enjoy the beef? Just dip into the Sukiyaki broth for 3-5 seconds and enjoy it according to your preferred level of wellness.

To be honest, there are just too many types of meatballs (More than 20 types!!) to be chosen from!

After trying lots of them, I enjoy the Wasabi Ball (芥未丸), Black Sesame Mochi (黑芝麻糯米糍), Pork Tendon Ball (猪筋丸) and Handmade Meat Balls (手打肉丸). Some burst in the mouth with lots of juicy meaty goodness.

This spicy (麻辣) ball is highly recommended for spicy lovers too!!
Be careful, the spicy juice will burst upon biting into the bouncy ball.

And the Black Sesame Mochi (黑芝麻糯米糍) is great for those who want a sweet finish.

火锅料 Other Steamboat Ingredients
章鱼烧 Taro Fish Ball
诚心丸 Sincere Ball
咖啦鱼丸 Curry Fish Ball
芝士海鲜豆腐 Cheese Seafood Bean Curd
芝士虾丸 Cheese Prawn Ball
虾球王 Premium Prawn Ball
红心丸 Red Heart Ball
香菇鱼丸 Mushroom Fish Ball
精品墨鱼丸 Premium Cuttlefish Ball
鱼包花枝 Fish and Squid Mixture
火腿肉丸 Ham Ball
白 鱼丸 White Fish Ball
鲍鱼片 Abalone Slice
百页豆腐 Special Tofu
玉字烧 Tamago

To balance the meal, we also add some noodles and vegetables into the broth. The slices of Pumpkin and Cabbage add natural sweetness into the soup.

副食 Side Dishes
乌冬面 Udon Noodles / 冬粉 Dongfen / 菠菜面 Spinach Noodles /
腐竹 Beancurd Skin / 豆腐卜Beancurd Puff / 油条 Fried Breadstick

蔬菜类 Vegetables
红萝卜 Carrot / 白萝卜 White Carrot / 南瓜 Pumpkin / 卷心菜 Cabbage /
鲍鱼菇 Abalone Mushroom / 金针菇 Golden Mushroom / 香菇 Mushroom /
西红枣 Tomota / 山药 Chinese Yam / 红薯 Sweet Potato / 毛瓜 Chieh Gua /
木耳 Chinese Fungus / 大白菜 Bok Choy / 油麦 Yau Mak / 茄子 Eggplant

Another unique feature of Taiwanese Chun Ciou Hot Pot is the choice of sauces!

Here you can choose among 10 types of sauces and condiments to create your own combination of flavours and pair with the steamboat ingredients. I especially love the chilli sauce for a spicy kick.

酱料 Sauces & Condiments
青葱 Green Onion
大蒜 Chopped Garlic
辣椒 Chilli Sauce
泰国辣酱 Thai Chill Sauce
水果酱 Fruit Sauce
沙茶酱 Satay Paste
酱油 Soy Sauce
香菜 Parsley
芝麻酱 Sesame Sauce
豆腐乳 Fermented Bean Curd

You must try creating thisChun Ciou Signature Sauce (招牌酱汁)from the raw ingredients!
Just follow these 4 simple steps below:

Step 1. Put Sesame Sauce into the bowl (Put more for sweeter taste)
Step 2. Add Egg Yolk for a smoother texture
Step 3. Add finely-chopped fresh Spring Onions (Add more for better texture)
Step 4. Sprinkle some Shichimi Powder (Add more for spicier flavour)

Tadaa! Now we are done with this golden egg yolk sukiyaki sauce which helps enhance the meat texture and juiciness while bringing down the hot pot heat on the meat.

Apart from the sauces and condiments, various beverages are available at the buffet bar,
ranging from cold drinks to hot Chinese tea.

甜品 Desserts
柠檬砂糖片 Sweet Lemon Slice
红豆汤 Red Bean Soup
冰淇淋 Ice Cream

Chun Ciou's desserts are equally great for both adults and children. The red bean soup is very thick and not too sweet for my liking. Here you can taste every bit of the red beans, adding nice texture to the dessert.

The Sweet Lemon Slices (柠檬砂糖片) are more popular among female customers who
love tangy sweet flavours. The balance of sourness and sweetness is just perfect here.

CNY 2017: Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

It's time for celebration! I love how every year begins with a massive Chinese New Year celebration, and this year let's usher into the Year of Rooster with an abundance delectable menu by Chef Ho Boon at Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.

The exclusive limited-time Chinese New Year offerings include the lunar set menu, ala carte dishes, Yee Sang varieties and Koi Fish Chinese New Year cake. They are available from 2 January  to 11 February 2017.

Celestial Court (天寶閣) Chinese Restaurant makes an ideal venue for CNY gathering with family and friends as this grand Cantonese restaurant is beautifully adorned with artifacts and exclusive contemporary artwork that reflect the elegance and grandeur of China’s royal dynasties.

The attention to detail not only focuses on the decorative items but also on the service. Empty and used plates are never left too long on the table as the attentive staff constantly replaces them with new ones, while they make sure the tea cups are filled throughout the meal.

富贵长捞起 锦绣鲜果三文鱼捞生
Prosperity Norwegian Salmon Fish Yu Sheng with Assorted Pickled Vegetable
and shredded Fresh Fruits served with Traditional Plum Sauce

This Chinese New Year, the Yee Sang here comes in 5 types (Sliced abalone, Norwegian salmon fish, crispy soft shell crabs and jelly fish with delicious dressings), mostly injected with a refreshing flair of fruits to cut down the calories and enhance natural sweetness of the platter.

Aside from the thick Norwegian salmon slices, we appreciate the complementing pickled vegetables and shredded fresh fruits which combine well with the traditional condiments and add juiciness into the overall taste. Plus, the sweet plum sauce is not overcloying at all.

Price of Yee Sang starts from MYR 88nett onwards for half portion.

金鸡报喜 南洋风味烧鸡
Roasted Corn Fed Chicken served with Spicy Onion Sauce

Every Chinese New Year meal should include a whole chicken, symbolising prosperity, joy and togetherness of the family. The roasted bird this year comes in special Nanyang-style sauce with a spicy kick. Texture wise, the meat is very fluffy on the inside and we enjoy the outer crispiness on the skin too.

金玉满堂 金香虾婆
Fragrant Golden Jin Sha Style Spicy Slipper Lobster

Besides poultry, the dishes that come next are all catered for seafood and vegetable lovers. Among all, the star of the evening is of course the slipper lobster drenched in special Kam Heong (金香 / Golden Fragrant) sauce-- something different from the usual dry version we often see elsewhere.

Beautifully coated with the thick, richly flavoured sauce, the fresh slipper lobster easily falls off the shell and then fills the senses with well-balanced flavours of aromatic spice and seafood sweetness. It's so good that I can pair the sauce with a hot bowl of plain rice.

双喜临门 带子虾仁炒夏果甜豆
Wok fried Fresh Scallop and Shrimps with Sweet Bean and Macadamia Nuts

Another symbolic dish which suits the healthy goers is the sweet crunchy combination of fresh juicy scallops, shrimps, sweet beans and macadamia nuts. Simple and hearty, it is our favourite classic Chinese dish.

满堂喜庆 海皇粒扒羊肚菌时蔬

Seasonal Vegetable with Morel Mushroom Topped with Diced Seafood and Crab Meat Roe Sauce

Similar to the previous dish, we have another vegetable-seafood dish which is endowed with strong oceanic sweetness from the diced seafood and crab meat roe sauce. We also appreciate the use of highly-prized morel mushroom in crunchy, large size for an added crunchiness to the dish.

富贵吉祥 螺鲍扒玉带
Braised Abalone Top Shell Meat with Scallop and Black Mushroom In Supreme Oyster Sauce

The Chinese New Year feast is not complete without this braised vegetables dish. The consistency of the sauce is just nice to coat the premium ingredients evenly to impart a delicious savoury flavour. Rich, sweet flavours in just enough sauce to coat the beans: we love it!

步步高升 香煎年糕
Pan-fried Traditional Chinese New Year Cake

Sealing our dinner with a sweet ending, we are fortunate to try out Chef Ho's handmade traditional Chinese New Year glutinous rice cake, pan-fried with light eggy batter into golden perfection. The overall taste is lightly sweet with minimal oil: nothing too heavy for the palate and easily wash down with a cup of Chinese tea.

Exclusively for this festive season, you can order the cute creative Koi Fish Nian Gao as a gift to someone special. Price starts from RM88 nett onwards for small twin Koi Fish.

Guess what happens when Korean beauty ingredients meet Korea’s advanced beauty innovation? We are really lucky to be able to enjoy the K-beauty goodness here in Malaysia, all thanks to Watsons Malaysia for bringing the products into our market.

Exclusively available in Watsons stores nationwide, we have the sweet-looking PINK by Pure Beauty brand. And it has just launched its newest skincare range specially catered for those with pore concerns!

The Pore Perfection by PINK by Pure Beauty

Do you have pore issues – Clogged, pigmented or sagging pores? Or are you aware that the pores on your T-zone look enlarged, extra dry and oily? Some even experience lots of blackheads and whiteheads on the open pores (ewww!) and the pore ducts appear darker on the surface too.

To be honest, the pores of my skin are enlarged, and everyday I have to put on a good layer of foundation to conceal those imperfections :( But concealing is not treating the issue! So I am glad to have this Pore Perfection gift set to tackle this issue.

Thank you Watsons Malaysia for this kawaii gift set loaded with roses, doll and Pore Perfection products.

The latest Pore Perfection series by PINK by Pure Beauty comprises of 3 products:
(1) Cleansing Form
(2) Toner
(3) Essence

It is a complete pore care regime that combines the unique formulation of Korean beauty ingredients (Mineral-rich Pink Clay, Jeju Volcanic Ash and Jeju Carbonated Thermal Water) and natural Pink Flower extracts with Korea’s advanced innovation in pore care to purify pores and refine skin for young women.

Let’s look into these 4 key ingredients of Pore Perfection range:

Pink Clay:
❤ Ancient treatment Kaolin clay that naturally treats many disorders
Absorbs toxins and clogged oil from the oil
 Combats skin irritation and dryness

Jeju Volcanic Ash:
Pure natural ingredient from Jeju Island to absorb sebum or harmful substances on the skin, leaving skin purified

Carbonated Thermal Water:
Korea’s best quality carbonated thermal water from San-bang mountain in Jeju
Rich in 13 minerals to hydrate the skin from inside out, leaving skin moisturized and refreshed
Keep the skin collagen fibers strong, leaving skin firm and plump

MAT-XS Bright:
❤ A compounded ingredient with Java tea leaf extract
Effective in reducing sebum production, shiny appearance and pore size

In short, it is a 6-in-1 Pore Care line that you gotta try because it packs 6 key benefits – Deep cleansing, sebum regulation, pore minimizing, pore tightening, hydration and skin tone refining – into one amazing series of products!

During the event, Caryn Loh, Country General Manager and Head of Watsons Malaysia (5th from left), Sharon Lim, Trading Director, Watsons Malaysia (4th from left), Danny Hoh, Head of Marketing (3rd from right) and the Pink by Pure Beauty models are ready to launch the Pore Perfection range.

The launch ceremony is joined by a group of hot hunks who are posing with the 3 different products of Pore Perfection.

It is followed by a demonstration where Philip Yeoh, Watsons Celebrity Friend

Happy Early Chinese New Year! ❤ How’s your preparation to usher into the brand new year? The reason I always love festive seasons is, because I can have a valid reason to splurge into things that I adore.

It’s time for new clothes, new shoes, new bag and a NEW fashionable me.
Now let me show you what have I gotten with less than RM200!

Austen D Heller Clog Heels in Red (More info: HERE)

Yay, I finally got myself a pair of Korean popular mid-heel shoes in red. Stylishly designed inround toe and suede material, I have no complaints at all. Quality wise, it looks pretty sturdy (not too tall for me) and is true to its size too.

Great for both formal and casual occasions!

I think statement heels in hot red color are seriously good pieces to mix and match, and flaunt your beautiful feet. Plus, my favourite way to rock suede is on my shoes, because it can get a little humid here sometimes.

Roxanne Tote Handbag in Black(More info: HERE)

To complete my outfit for Chinese New Year, I bought the leather-inspired tote too. It is quite a decent piece - Sizeable enough to fit the essentials such as wallet, mobile phone, camera, etc. And yet sleek and cute enough to carry as a chic tote for dinner dates or weekend brunchs.

Lady Thong Open Toe Platform Wedges in Black (More info: HERE)

Knowing that this Chinese New Year it would require lots of walking (around my hometown), I purposely got another pair of extra comfortable platform wedges for casual wear. Well, I mean why torture the feet with high pointy heels when I can have the luxury of wearing thick-sole Korean-style platforms?

Honestly, even with that 8.5cm heel height, it is very lightweight and great for walking!

If you are doing last minute shopping for shoes and bags, then you gotta be quick before the ready stocks run out of supply. Alternatively, keep calm and wait for the pre-orders to arrive at your doorstep.

Now, let's enjoy shopping at www.happy2u.my!

Special thanks to BOH Tea for the lovely invitation and thank you my dear followers on Facebook and Instagram for joining my giveaway to join me at BOH Green Tea Latte Party at Merchant Lane, Petaling Street.

There we are at the hidden gem along Petaling Street with this prestigious market leader for tea.

BOH is no stranger in the tea-making industry; Here are some of the popular ranges by BOH:
BOH Seri Songket, Cameronian Gold Blend and more.

At this BOH Green Tea Latte party, it's all about BOH's latest creation-- BOH Green Tea Latte!

Do you know that the all-new Green Tea Latte is made with authentic and all natural Japanese Matcha powder? The best part is, it comes in convenient sachets where you can have it anywhere anytime you want, for just a fraction of the price of a cup of green tea latte in the cafés!

Each pack of BOH Green Tea Latte contains 12 sachets of instant tea mix.

Personally, I am a super huge fan of green tea latte! At any café I visit, I’d surely order a cup of green tea latte to warm the stomach and satisfy my cravings. Unfortunately, not all cafés have this option on their menu, and the convenient coffee maker in the office does not have green tea latte too.

I am glad that now I can store as many sachets of BOH Green Tea Latte I want
at home or in the office or have a cuppa on the go.

BOH Green Tea Latte recipes include the making of our all-time favourite local desserts.

BOH’s creamy and smooth cup of Green Tea Latte can be enjoyed hot or cold, all up to your liking. Not only that, it can be one of the useful ingredients for making desserts and fancy beverages -- Just be creative!

Mr. Chen Chaw Chang, the Head of Marketing and Export, BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd and Ms. Caroline Russell, CEO of BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd during the event have introduced to us one of the new BOH Green Tea Latte recipes-- Green Tea Latte Milkshake infused with Red Beans

Let's cheer for the delicious drinks!

Each sip of BOH Green Tea Latte runs smoothly down the throat with just the right balance of sweetness and creamy goodness. All thanks to the rich content of natural Japanese Matcha powder.

No worries for those who are watching their weights because BOH Green Tea Latte is infused with Stevia leaf extract which replaces sugar and acts as a natural sweetener with much lower calories. Now it fits perfectly well into your healthy diet.

BOH Green Tea Latte Agar-agar

BOH Green Tea Latte Kuih Bahulu

As for the desserts, BOH Green Tea Latte Agar-agar and Kuih Bahulu are equally noteworthy as the infusion of green tea imparts a uniquely pleasant aroma and flavours into the traditional delicacies.

Perhaps if you have more unique recipes for this Green Tea Latte, don't forget to share with me ya!

Yummy! How I'd wish to enjoy my afternoon tea break everyday like this.

There's a corner where we can write down our Ummph moment and hang on to the tree,
My Ummph moment is just as simple as an afternoon well-spent with delicious beverage and sweets.

For those who have not tried the all new Green Tea Latte from BOH, you gotta get your hands on it now! Available in a packet of 12 sachets at RM14.30, BOH Green Tea Latte can now be found at all major retailers.

Yay, I have just completed my first run of 2017!

One of my New Year resolutions for 2017 is to participate in more running events and I am glad to have kickstarted my running journey this year with That 70's Run by Symphony Life at Taman Tasik Prima, Puchong.

Look at the shiny, retro-designed medals with colorful lanyard, so pretty right?

Symphony Life, one of Malaysia’s leading property developers, organizes this fun run for the neighbourhood around the Taman Tasik Prima area as part of its effort in enhancing the lakeside township and adding vibrancy to the neighbourhood.

What's so special about That 70's Run is that the participants can dress in their favourite 1970s themed look, and then groove to the disco tunes of the 1970s at two checkpoints. Each checkpoint is also a drinking station for runners to relax and take a sip.

With the dancers on stage, we are more excited to dance along with the 70's music.

Along the running path, I see alot of participants flaunting their best 70's styles -- Colorful stripes, polka dots and wigs are everywhere! After running for a couple of km's, we finally arrive at the second stop.

And....yes, it's dancing time again!

Throughout the 5km run, it has definitely fostered the spirit of healthy lifestyle among families and friends, bringing all of us closer together.

After the hard work, it's time to enjoy the activities and yummy food at the mini carnival.
Food trucks and vendors are aplenty here, we are seriously spoilt with choices.

Free health checks are also provided by Lincoln University College. The checks included diabetes, BMI (Obesity checks), and blood pressure checks. Arthritis Foundation Malaysia (AFM) also supported the event and an exhibition to raise awareness about arthritis.

Besides that, many entertaining activities such as blowing giant bubbles, street clown performance, inflatable playground, face painting, colouring workshop, and photo booths to pose at were also available for the whole family to enjoy.

Apart from mini games and contests, there are lucky draws with prizes worth up to RM10,000 up for grabs, such as TV, bicycles, smartphone, tablet, and more. The best-dressed participants manage to win RM800 worth of Parkson's vouchers, sponsored by Golden Prima Builders Sdn. Bhd.

With over 1,000 participants' support, Symphony Life Berhad’s That 70’s Run is a very successful  event, all thanks to the participants, the sponsors and partners -- Garmin Malaysia, Salonpas, Eagle Brand, Tongee, Hung Fuk Tong, Sunway Lagoon, Running Malaysia Magazine, Ultron, Z Fitness, Lincoln University College, Arthritis Foundation Malaysia, Ideamax, RunningEvents.my, Getwell Physiotheraphy Centre, and more.

Definitely looking forward for the next fun run by Symphony Life!

Simmer Huang 黄记皇 – 百年美味 焖于一锅

Yay, Simmer Huang is finally in Malaysia!! After seeing its establishments all around the world including China, US, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and more, now it has finally opened its very first restaurant in Malaysia, at Pavilion ELITE Kuala Lumpur.

The restaurant chain was established in Beijing in 2004 and has more than 600 restaurants worldwide now. Following imperial recipes from the Qing Dynasty, Simmer Huang specializes in a unique simmering cooking technique (without using any water!), using medical herbs, vegetables and sauces to come up with nutritionally balanced Chinese dishes.

The secret of success of the simmer pot is said to lie within the ratio of ingredients to the herbs and spices. And the best part is, the meal is cooked right in front of the diners.

Ambiance wise, the classy design and image of the restaurant infused with a modern twist allows the space to exude a grand, sophisticated feel while keeping diners comfortable amidst the luxurious ambiance.

Three Sauce Simmer Pot 黄记皇三汁焖锅

This traditional simmer technique allows the strong flavours of herbs penetrating into the sauce, while retaining the nutritional benefits of the food. I am sure the food will be extra juicy too, can't wait to try it out!

I particularly love hot pot dishes that keep the freshness of the ingredients at the best state,
and the soup is punch packed with robust flavours and aroma. How delicious is that!

Imagine the piping hot aroma coming up the combination of herbs, sauces and meat,
how can you resist that?

To be honest, this is going to be my first time experiencing a unique Chinese "simmered" dishes.

If you would like to try Simmer Huang, don't forget to visit its first outlet at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur!

It's food hunting day and this time we manage to search for this Chinese restaurant in Klang--2013 私房菜 Stash Recipes Restaurant which brings us a myriad of flavours closest to home.

It is quite rare to see a Chinese restaurant operating till late night (2-3am), but here you can enjoy your late night meal and karaoke singing till midnight. Just chill around there after dinner and enjoy the late evening vibes here.

Signature Pork Trotter in Vinegar Sauce (私房豬腳醋)

Some of the signature dishes here feature the use of high quality pork,
combined with different condiments to bring out the homey Chinese flavours.

Sweet and Sour Pork Served on Ice (冰镇咕噜肉)

Another dish that caught my attention is the appetizer-- Sweet and sour pork diced in cubes and served on a bed of ice. Unlike the traditional version which is served hot, this porky dish is more refreshing and does not feel oily / fatty on the palate at all. Yummy!

Pork Ribs in Yam Gravy (芋头排骨)

If you prefer something with more gravy, the pork rib coated with creamy yam gravy
is recommended as it does not feel dry on the mouth.

Classic Pork Trotter (豬腳醋)

Some may love the heavy aroma of vinegar to open up the palate, so why not give this a try?

The video above features Serene Lim (林宣妤), the first runner-up of 2017 Miss Chinese
International Pageant 2017 (国际华裔小姐竞选), doing a quick review at this restaurant.

Some of the dishes featured in the video include poultry (龍井煙熏雞), beancurd (招牌豆腐羹),
seafood (上湯啦啦 , 巴丁魚) and pork dishes (芋泥排骨 , 古早味豬腳醋)

If you are looking for homey Chinese cooking in Klang, now you know where to head to.

Italian Dinner with Michelin Star Chef @ Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

$

It has been almost a year since I last had my Italian Prosecco brunch date with Michelin Chef Marcello Fabbri who flew all the way from Italy to Kuala Lumpur and took over Villa Danieli's kitchen for a week. Now I am glad that he is back at Sheraton Imperial, bringing to us another level of gastronomical journey of flavours and taste of Italy.

During his 20 years experience in the renowned gourmet restaurant in Germany – Anna Amelia, he has served the royals and prominent names from various industries. His passion towards ‘Italian simplicity’ style of cooking has earned him the recognition as one of the most celebrated chefs in the world.

I am glad to be able to sample his traditional Italian cuisine once again
during his one-week stay at Villa Danieli from 19 to 23 January 2017.

Degustation Menu by Chef Marcello Fabbri
❤ Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL
❤ 5-course meal: Starter, soup, risotto, steak, dessert

It has been awhile since I last dined Villa Danieli and I miss the house signature bread here. The complimentary basket of bread always gains much popularity among the diners because the fresh bakes are just delicious.

Marcello Fabbri Vitello Tonnato
Newly Interpreted Tuna and Veal by Marcello Fabbri
Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco DOC

Then we kickstart our Italian affair with a cold amuse bouche – Sliced tuna and veal with balsamic vinaigrette. The lightly marinated tuna tastes mild on the palate, and pairing it with a slightly sweet white wine is a great start of our evening feast.

Zuppa Di Zucca
Pumpkin Soup served with Scallops and Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio D.O.C.G

Next up is a hearty bowl of creamy roasted pumpkin soup, crowned with 3 pieces of fried breaded scallops. I love the aroma of roasted pumpkin which balances well with the juicy, sweet seafood. But the overall taste could be better if it falls on the less salty side.

Risotto Ai Porcini
Risotto of Porcini Mushrooms served with Parmesan Ice Cream
Speri Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC

However, I personally find that the showstopper of the evening is the classic mushroom risotto – Simple yet comforting especially when it exudes loads of earthy aroma upon savouring every grain of the rice. No doubt it is Chef Marcello Fabbri's signature dish!

Manzo Australiano
Australian Black Angus Striploin served with Green Asparagus, Potato Confit and Black Truffle
Lamole Di Lamole Blue Label Chianti Classico D.O.C.G

As the main arrives, my dining partner enjoys his medium rare striploin in classic sauce while I opt for a non-beef option – Sous vide chicken, topped with a generous portion of black truffle. Best paired with deep red wine that cuts through the flavours of the meat.

Torta Di Mele Granny Smith
Granny Smith Apple Tart served with Granny Smith Soup and Sorbet
Warre Warrior Finest Reserve Port Wine

Our 5-course meal is sealed with a sweet ending – Sweet tart, soup and sorbet all composed using green apple. It is quite rare to see desserts in green hues, but this looks pretty good. Just simple and lightly sweet yet not overloading for us.

Overall, my dine-and-wine experience with Chef Marcello Fabbri is pretty satisfying. Thanks for bringing to us a different dining experience and making this a perfect evening to dine with great food, lovely wines and amazing friends.

Looking forward to my next dining experience at Villa Danieli!

There we are at the very first International Sake Festival Malaysia 2017 organized by Nomi Tomo Sake Bar (located above Huckleberry Food & Fare at Plaza Damansara). For those who do not know about Nomi Tomo, it is truly a hidden gem for sake lovers because you will be spoilt with the wide variety of traditional Sake, modern Soju, Japanese beer and whiskey here

Nomi Tomo, the house of sake, is popular for its sake selection because it brings in loads of premium and exclusive Sake from Japan and distributes them to several restaurants in town too. As a wholesaler of Sake, Nomi Tomo always welcomes anyone who is interested to carry the sake in their own restaurant / establishment.

Friday and Saturday night is a full house for Nomi Tomo as patrons come savour the famous Yakitori and Japanese dishes, while drinking Sake.

I am not kidding when I say Nomi Tomo has a wide variety of Sake. Taking pride as the most traditional sake bar and sake house in town, Nomi Tomo serves Sake priced from a hundred ringgit per bottle up to thousands of ringgit per bottle.

Whether you prefer something affordable or premium, choices are aplenty here. To better cater for both sake connoiseurs and casual drinkers, they have recently invited four major sake manufacturers from Japan to share their sake creation and knowledge with us.

During the sake fest, we are treated with loads of Yakitori (Japanese barbecued pork belly, chicken and beef skewers) which pairs very well with Sake as the flavour of meats cuts through the sharpness of alcohol.

I am glad to be able to meet the four major Japanese sake manufacturers (They have a strong sake-making background of more than hundreds of years!) who come all the way from Japan and introduce their brands to us:

❤ Bijofu brand by Hamakawa Shoten brewery from Kochi prefecture
❤ Dassai brand by Asahi Shuzo from Yamaguchi
❤ Gasanryu brand by Shindo Shuzoten brewery from Yamagata prefecture
❤ Seikyo brand by Nakao Jozo brewery from Hiroshima

From left to right: Bijofu Sparkling Sake (13.5% alcohol);
Bijofu Yuzu sake, Bijofu Yuzu Shuwa and Bijofu Ponkan (7% alcohol)

Bijofu, meaning "Beautiful, strong and kind", brings us something light to tease the palate first, before we go for the stronger sake. We have a great time drinking the elegant Ginjo sparkling sake (which tastes like beer!), and fruity sake based liquor

I personally find that this Bijofu Ponkan is very suitable for females as the shochu base is combined with juicy Ponkan fruits and honey to exude the citrusy freshness without overwhelming the palate with alcohol taste. Delicious as a dessert drink!

From left to right: Bijofu Junmai Daiginjo Shizukuhime (15% alcohol, 50% polishing ratio);
Bijofu Junmai Ginjo Junrei Tama (15.5% alcohol, 55% polishing ratio);
Bijofu Tokubetsu Junmai (15% alcohol, 60% polishing ratio)

Bijofu brew master in his 28 years career of making sake, emphasizes on the importance of using "mother water", one of the best super soft water in the whole Japan. Not only that, each of the Sake above has different rice polishing ratio to exude distinctive rich umami taste with an excellent balance of acidity and sweetness.

Here I learn something valuable about brewing sake. The higher is the rice milling rate (the rice is more polished off), the more rice is required to make the sake. the more expensive the sake is.

The sake made with the more highly polished rice is certainly cleaner and more refined,
hence more expensive. In short, the lower is the rice polishing ratio of a sake, the pricier it is.

DASSAI Junmai Daiginjo 50 (15.5% alcohol, 50% polishing ratio)

The next brewery brand we speak to is Asahi Shuzo (Website: www.asahishuzo.ne.jp), one of the few Japanese breweries that focus on making only top-grade Junmai Daiginjo sake since more than a decade ago.

Even though DASSAI 50 is the lowest grade in the DASSAI lineup, the DASSAI 50 still meets the quality standards as the premium quality Yamada Nishiki rice is milled down to 50%. The resulting taste? It exudes a very graceful, elegant aroma and tastes delicately sweet and smooth down the throat, with a clean finish.

Moving on to the third stop, we are lucky to be able to taste Gasanryu Sake from Shindo Sake Brewery which is backed by a strong 145 years sake brewing experience. The best part is, the ninth generation president of the family business now still maintains the most traditional style of brewing in Yamagata prefecture.

From left to right: Gasanryu Honjozo Koka (15% alcohol, 65% polishing ratio);
Gasanryu Junmai Fuka (15% alcohol, 65% polishing ratio);
Gasanryu Daiginjo Kisaragi (14.5% alcohol, 50% polishing ratio);
Gasanryu Junmai Daiginjo Fukurodori Gokuzuki (16.5% alcohol, 40% polishing ratio);

Gasanryu Sake is so fresh and clean that it not only pairs well with Japanese food but also go exceptionally well with carpaccio, cheese and other international cuisine. It is a pleasant surprise to me when the Sake exudes a well-rounded flavour with distinctive ricey taste.

Gasanryu Honjozo Koka (15% alcohol, 65% polishing ratio)

My personal favourite from Gasanryu is the cheapest variant among all -- Gasanryu Honjozo Koka -- also the winner of the Honjozo category in the International Wine Challenge 2010

Gasanryu recommends to us this new style of Honjouzo sake served warm and best enjoyed with food. It exudes a pleasant moderate sweetness of rice with hints of lively floral, soft notes when served warm. Interestingly, it tastes more gentle and fruity when served chilled. Be it warm of cold, it complements all types of dishes very well.

From left to right: Seikyo Junmai Takehara (15.5% alcohol, 65% polishing ratio);
Seikyo Junmai Omachi (15.5% alcohol, 65% polishing ratio)

Nakao Sake Brewery, another longstanding brewery in Japan, is established since 1871 in Takehara, a coastal city in Hiroshima Prefecture. Now, it is a specialist in Ginjo sake brewing. The range is rather heavy for me as it tastes soft and sweet on the mouth, but is followed by dry mid-palate with the sweetness fading in the end.

Seikyo Maboroshi Daiginjo (16% alcohol, 50% polishing ratio)

The second highest range which Seikyo brings to us this round is this Daiginjo which is popular among the sake connoisseurs for its full body flavour yet very easy to drink with strong aroma of apple. The taste does not linger too long on the palate, making us craving for more.

Seikyo Maboroshi Junmai Daiginjo Black (17% alcohol, 45% polishing ratio)

We save the best for the last. The most highly-prized sake among all here is this Seikyo Maboroshi Junmai Daiginjo Black which has been brewed traditionally by hand until now, using traditional apple yeast. It is unblended, hence every sip is ultra clear, like....crystal clear water! The flavour come in when going down the throat.

Truly a masterpiece by Nakao Sake Brewery! No doubt it has won so many awards in the past:
❤ First Prize at the National Competition in 1948
❤ Selected wine for Imperial New Year Celebration in Japan for 3 years
❤ Golden award in the category of Sake of the International Wine Challenge in 2007

Truly a must-try for first timers and sake lovers❤

Just in case you may get confused after rounds and rounds of Sake tasting, the wall of Nomi Tomo is filled with the chart of flavours and pricing for each sake. It definitely eases the process of choosing your favourite sake here!

Famous Hot Pot: Simmer Huang (黄记皇) @ Pavilion ELITE, KL

If you remember my previous teaser post about Simmer Huang (黄记皇), now it's time for the most anticipated food review post! Simmer Huang, the No.1 Hot Pot brand from China is internationally recognized as one of the most traditional, imperial simmer style Chinese cuisines from Qing Dynasty.

With over 600 outlets spread around the world, finally Simmer Huang opens its first outlet in Malaysia at Pavilion Elite (Level 8) and I'm glad to be one of the first to try it out!

At Pavilion ELITE, I am sure you can expect a very posh dining ambiance in the restaurant here. True indeed, Simmer Huang's interior boasts an oriental touch injected with flairs of modernity.

Plus, it is air-conditioned and kept clean at all times, so that we can truly enjoy our hot pot without feeling stuffy / sweaty.

MAIN POT (百年焖锅)

You must be wondering what exactly are the "treasures" in this huge pot!

How To Order?

Step 1: Choose your main ingredients for the hot pot
Fresh fish, chicken, frog, assorted seafood, pork and Australian beef – ranging from RM90 to RM150 per pot.

Step 2: Choose 1 from the 5 types of sauces for each pot
Classic (招牌咸鲜汁), Seafood (海鲜汁), Spicy (微麻辣汁), Hot and Spicy (特麻辣汁), and Soy (豉皇汁).
*For instance, fish pot should pair with seafood sauce.

Next, what's so unique about the "simmering" cooking technique?

Simmer Huang "three sauce simmer pot" features the art of simmering using a hundred years old imperial recipe since the glorious Qing Dynasty days. By simmering, the natural goodness of traditional Chinese therapeutic herbs, vitamins and proteins from the nutritious ingredients can be retained within the pot itself.

Plus, it is generally healthier in a way as it is not deep-fried. The secret of success of the simmer pot? It is the perfect ratio of ingredients to the herbs and spices that brings out the overall flavours.

Step 1: Basically, when you first order your hot pot, the waitstaff will heat up the pot with a slab of buttery oil in it.

Step 2: Then ten types of vegetables are added into the pot as base, such as carrots, onion, garlic, capsicum and more. Under high heat and pressure, the vegetable base will soften and burst into juicy goodness without having to add a single drop of water!

Step 3: It is then topped with a generous layer of the main ingredients, which is my favourite seafood.

Step 4: And finally the secret Classic Sauce (招牌咸鲜汁) is drizzled over the pot to add flavours to the dish. This traditional method locks in the nutritional values in the food while allowing the herbs to be fully absorbed into the ingredients.

The hot pot preparation time takes only 10 – 15 minutes, and voila! The simmering hot delicacy is boiling and ready to eat!

Assorted Seafood Pot with Classic Sauce (四鲜焖锅 配 招牌咸鲜汁)

My favourite classic pot of fish, prawn, oyster and cuttlefish served in thick, savoury sauce is ready to serve!
So flavourful and rich in oceanic goodness. Recommended for seafood lovers.

Similarly, for our spicy porky pot (Signature item!), the pot is filled with assorted vegetables as the base, but with more spices and chilli oil to give the dish an instant kick.

Pork & Fungus Pot with Spicy Sauce (猪菌焖锅 配 微麻辣汁)

Then the combination of pork belly, black fungus. oyster mushroom and king oyster mushroom balances up the juiciness of the dish. If I were to have any complaints at all, it’d be about having not enough pork for me because the meat is simply tender and juicy!

I love how the spicy, numbing sensation is well-suffused into the meat and mushrooms,
exuding strong aroma that lingers around the space.

For those who want to go adventurous with flavours, you can self-customize your very own
Four Treasure Pot (自选4宝焖锅) or Five Comby Pot (自选5福焖锅).

If you prefer something with soup, you can choose to add soup (Clear Chicken Soup)
to create a different taste profile and dining experience.

ADD-ON (配菜)

To increase the variety of ingredients in one pot, you can add-on items such as pork belly, red snapper fillet, flower prawn, pig stomach, pig intestines and more. As for our dinner, we complete our sumptuous hot pot with some of the chef specialty items.

Potato Vermicelli (红薯粉); Chef Special Mushroom Ball (特创冬菇丸); Fried Beancurd Crust (炸响铃)

My favourite is this mushroom ball with chewy texture of mushroom blended into the tender meat.
Highly recommended!

Frozen Tofu (冻豆腐)

Chef Special Cuttlefish Paste (特创墨鱼滑)

APPETIZER (凉菜)

Well, Simmer Huang is not just about hot pot and steamboat! It also serves a wide variety of Chinese appetizers to whet the appetite, each and every dish is unique on its own. To be honest, I hardly see these items being served in other restaurants!

Simmer Huang Octopus (招牌八爪鱼)
Cool, tangy and crunchy! Best paired with the sweet savoury sauce that balances up the raw flavour of the octopus.

Signature Vinegar Peanut (老醋花生)
Nice roasty flavour of peanuts combines well with the sweet sour vinegar.

Mushroom Bites (爽口杏鲍菇)
Another cold appetizer that leaves pleasant biting pleasure in the mouth.

Prosperity Yee Sang (许留山鲜果捞生)
They even have Lou Sang from Hui Lau Shan (许留山) throughout this Chinese New Year to spice up the festive mood.

DESSERT (甜品)

At Simmer Huang, the desserts here are sourced from Hui Lau Shan (许留山)
meaning you can enjoy all sorts of sensational mango desserts here!

To satisfy your mango cravings, you can read about my review for Hui Lau Shan HERE.

Mango Feast (芒果盛宴)

A trio mango dessert platter comprising of:
Mango Ice Cream Sandwich: Melt-in-the-mouth vanilla mango soft serve sandwiched between crushed biscuits
Mango Icy Sweetie Balls: Rich, compact scoop of mango sorbet with chewy mango
Icy Mango with Coconut Flesh: Aromatic sweet sorbet with loads of coconut flesh

Ganoderma Herbal Jelly (龟苓膏)

Both modern mango dessert and traditional herbal jelly are
simply delicious and perfect to cool the body after the simmering hot meal.

Verdict:
1. This traditional “simmer” delicacy is rich in flavours, healthy and culturally appealing. It feels like reliving the ancient Chinese royal feasting moments.
2. Great variety of meats and sauces for diners to mix and match to best suit their palates.
3. Recommended: Seafood Pot in Classic Sauce
